5 Trouser Trends for 2015: Stand Out Without Standing Down

Fashion trends are a constant whirlwind, emerging every season, every month - sometimes even faster. The secret to navigating these shifts without losing your style (or sanity) is to develop a discerning eye or a personal “filter” for trends. Rather than jumping on every bandwagon, build a style that’s uniquely yours. Trust me, chasing every fad will only drain your wallet and leave you out of breath.

The recent London Collections: Men (LC:M) and European men’s fashion week showcased plenty of unique styles, particularly in trouser design. Fashionbeans has highlighted five top trouser trends for 2015, each practical and refined enough to elevate a gentleman’s look with ease.

Wide-Leg Trousers

At LC:M, Topman Design took cues from the rock 'n' roll vibe of the 1970s, presenting flared trousers. While slim-fit and skinny-fit cuts are still in, a modern straight-leg with a slight flare is the ideal choice - maintaining a bit of the slim aesthetic without going overboard.

Wide-leg trousers work best paired with sneakers, trainers, and the trending bomber jacket, creating a balanced look that’s casual but polished.

Checked Trousers

Luxury brands like Dolce & Gabbana and Tom Ford introduced fresh takes on checked trousers with bold Prince of Wales and windowpane patterns, each capturing an unmistakably British feel.

This classic print is being embraced by men worldwide. If high-end labels aren’t for you, simpler options from brands like River Island, ASOS, or Topman in neutral shades (think gray, brown, and blue) are great alternatives.

Keep the rest of your outfit minimal with solid shirts, shoes, and accessories, letting the trousers do the talking. For a smart-casual look, pair checked trousers with a solid blazer or polo and loafers.

Cropped Trousers

Cropped trousers have been in style for a while, but this year’s runways showcased them in bold colors, patterns, and prints. If you’re not looking to make too strong a statement, stick to versatile colors like black, gray, or navy for a look that’s confidently stylish without being too bold.

Sweatpants

Once relegated strictly to gym wear, sweatpants have undergone a transformation and are now a must-have. With a streamlined fit and crafted from higher-quality fabrics like jersey and structured cotton, today’s sweatpants are worlds apart from the baggy styles of the past.

Sweatpants pair effortlessly with bomber jackets, longline t-shirts, and sneakers, striking the perfect balance between comfort and style.

Military-Inspired Trousers

The military trend is no stranger to fashion, but in 2015, military-inspired trousers take on a more refined look than the bulky cargo pants of previous years. This updated style features slim cuts and is crafted from lighter cotton and fleece fabrics, making it a universally flattering choice.
