The Layering Game Is On – Are You Ready?

As the sweltering days come to an end, it's time to embrace the cooler months ahead! For someone like me who tends to sweat just sitting still, the transition from autumn to winter is a welcome change. The layering season is upon us, and it's the perfect opportunity to elevate your style by mixing and matching multiple layers.

If you’re unsure where to start, here are five essential layering pieces you should consider to stay stylish and warm:

Flannel Shirt

When the cold season hits, darker, neutral tones often dominate our wardrobe. That's why texture becomes key in making your outfit stand out. A flannel shirt, with its cozy, brushed surface, adds an extra layer of depth to your look.

Styling Tip: Flannel shirts have the perfect thickness for a middle layer. You can also wear them as an inner layer, though be prepared for some itchiness if it’s your first time rocking flannel 😆.

Shirt jacket

Sometimes mistaken for a thicker flannel shirt, a shirt jacket is an outerwear staple that combines the structure of a jacket with the flexibility of a shirt. Featuring larger buttons or zippers, a shirt jacket can easily transition from casual to more polished looks. Opt for a thicker material so you can wear it well into the colder months.

Ribbed Sweater

Forget plain pullover sweaters - what you need is a ribbed sweater. The textured knit of this style adds a subtle dimension to your outfit, making even darker shades pop without being too loud. It's perfect for monochrome layering with a hint of flair.

Among monochrome shades, a ribbed sweater still stands out subtly, even if it's in a darker tone.

Turtleneck Sweater

Once reserved for an older crowd, turtleneck sweaters have made a stylish comeback. Available in various collar heights, they provide an excellent base layer. The magic lies in the collar peeking out from under your outer layers, adding both warmth and visual interest.

Cardigan Sweater

Versatility is the name of the game with cardigans. Whether worn as the outer layer over a t-shirt or as a middle layer beneath a jacket or coat, cardigans can work for any setting. Choose neutral colors like black, navy, or grey to maximize your outfit combinations.

Styling Tip: Cardigans are a no-fail option that can be worn just about anywhere, anytime, without worrying about whether it fits the occasion.

These five items form the backbone of any well-layered outfit. As winter approaches, don’t hesitate to add a jacket or overcoat for that extra layer of warmth and style. Here's to a seamless transition into the art of layering!
