The scent - a refreshing apple-mint blend - is exactly what you’d expect from Reuzel’s high standards. I use Grooming Tonic on either damp or dry hair, then blow-dry it. The result? A natural look with impressive volume and moisture, no stiffness or stickiness. After blow-drying, the apple-mint scent lingers gently. Reuzel doesn’t explicitly claim heat protection, but I noticed zero heat damage with this tonic.
Hair Tonic
This blue-toned Hair Tonic shares the same design as Grooming Tonic but serves a different purpose. Hair Tonic is a barber’s tool, born from the legendary Schorem barbershop in the Netherlands, where Reuzel was first crafted. Schorem’s barbers don’t wash clients’ hair before cutting - they believe clean hair loses its natural shape, making it hard to style. Hair Tonic is their go-to, adding moisture and a subtle hold that makes cutting and styling easier.
For daily users, Hair Tonic is a secret weapon for refreshing your style. Say you styled your hair with pomade in the morning. By evening, a little extra hold might be needed before heading out. Adding more pomade directly can get sticky, but with Hair Tonic, you can easily refresh the style without reworking the entire look. It adds hold with a subtle shine, not the bold gloss of pomade.
Following the instructions, I stored Hair Tonic in the fridge overnight, and applying it cold was incredibly refreshing - like an ice-cool splash for the scalp. The scent is clean and invigorating, slightly reminiscent of the iconic CK One fragrance.
