Creating your own personal style doesn't have to be a grand, complicated process. Of course, if you're a fashion expert, you probably have a long list of rules to follow. But for most of us, building a wardrobe that truly represents who we are can be simpler and more intuitive - especially for those just starting to explore their personal style.

Let me share a few of my personal style tips. The most important thing to remember is this: "You wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you." 😉 Let’s break it down.
Understanding Colors
This one might seem like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how many people overlook how important it is to know which colors suit your skin tone. This can make a huge difference in how flattering your clothes are.

Skin tones generally fall into three categories: warm, cool, and neutral. To figure out yours, just take a look at the veins on your wrist under natural light:
If they look green, your skin tone is warm.
If they look blue, your skin tone is cool.
If you can’t tell, your skin tone is neutral.
Once you've identified your skin tone, choosing colors becomes much easier.

If you have a warm skin tone, you’ll look great in warm colors like red, yellow, orange, brown, and camel.

For cooler tones, stick to colors like blue, navy, gray, and black.

For those lucky enough to have a neutral skin tone - good news! You can rock pretty much any color.
The Perfect Fit

You’ve heard it a million times: fit is key. But knowing how to choose clothes that flatter your body shape takes time and experience.

For example:
Thick thighs: Try pleated-front pants to create a more balanced look.
Broad shoulders: Opt for blazers without shoulder pads to keep things proportional.
Short and stocky? Go for clothes that fit well at the hips and keep them tailored.

Once you understand what flatters your figure, you’ll make fewer fashion missteps.
Buy in Bulk
When you find a perfect piece - whether it’s a pair of navy trousers, a shirt that fits just right, or a jacket that’s spot on - don’t be afraid to buy more than one. Stock up on a few pairs, maybe in different colors, so you always have something that fits and feels good.

It might feel indulgent, but consistency in your wardrobe goes a long way in creating a polished, reliable look.
Don’t Follow Every Trend
Fashion trends often take time to trickle down from the runway to real life - and even then, they can be altered significantly. So, don’t obsess over the latest "it" item just because it’s trending.

For instance, floral prints might be on the runway, but if you’ve never worn them, maybe try a small floral-print accessory first, like a tie or pocket square, instead of going all in.

Keep it Simple
Simplicity is never out of style. Think about classic staples like white sneakers, slim-fit jeans, and a well-fitted white shirt. These pieces have been around for years and will never go out of fashion.
Use these basics as the foundation of your wardrobe. If a trend like floral prints is making waves, pair a floral shirt with your go-to navy blazer and white sneakers for a modern yet timeless look.

Adapt to the "Theme"

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time you get dressed. If you look and feel great in certain combinations - say, navy trousers with desert boots, a crew neck sweater, and a bomber jacket - stick with it. Switch things up through fabric choices, layering, or different tones.

Minimal Accessories
In men’s fashion, less is more. Don’t overcomplicate things with too many bracelets or chains. The key to accessories is quality, not quantity. A watch is a great starting point - maybe add a pair of sunglasses, a leather bag, or one or two good belts. Invest in pieces that elevate your look without being overdone.

Find Your Signature Item
Everyone has that one item that feels like an extension of their personality. Whether it’s a sharp blazer, a perfect pair of sneakers, or that pair of jeans that makes you feel unstoppable - find your go-to piece and make it part of your daily rotation.

Signature items help solidify your personal style. Think of James Dean’s white T-shirt, Paul Newman’s penny loafers, or Steve McQueen’s iconic Persol sunglasses. What's your signature?
