This Classic Cut Is Owning the Spotlight This Summer

Updated: Dec 17

Military-inspired fashion has been a profound source of inspiration for men's style over the years. From iconic bomber jackets and pea coats to durable desert boots, many everyday items draw their roots from military apparel. This influence extends beyond clothing and footwear, notably shaping popular hairstyles like the clean and masculine High & Tight.

Emerging in the 1980s, this haircut has transitioned from military barracks to mainstream culture, making it particularly practical as summer heats up.

What Is the High & Tight Haircut?

The term "High & Tight" doesn’t pinpoint a singular style; rather, it encompasses a range of short haircuts primarily crafted with clippers. The hair on the sides and back is clipped very close to the scalp, while the top can vary in length, allowing for different interpretations of the style. In simple terms, the High & Tight means the sides and back are cut high and tight.

Here are some variations of the High & Tight you might want to rock this summer:

Buzz High & Tight

This is the most authentic and unadulterated version of the High & Tight. The sides and back are shaved to the skin, leaving the top with almost no bangs and extremely short hair. It requires zero styling products and minimal upkeep - truly a military-grade haircut!

Short High & Tight

This variant retains the classic short and neat essence of the High & Tight but allows a bit of length on the bangs and top for styling flexibility. You can style it into a Quiff, sweep the bangs to one side, or apply a touch of wax for added texture.

To maintain the distinct length contrast between the sides and top, regular barber visits every two weeks are recommended for touch-ups. 😉

Mid-length High & Tight

Adding some length to the bangs opens up a world of styling possibilities. With medium to longer lengths on the bangs and top (around 4-6 cm or more), you can experiment with various looks.

Opt for a Quiff, Pompadour, or even a Slickback if your hair naturally lies flat. Alternatively, break away from structured styles and tousle your hair for a laid-back, fresh appearance. 😎

Embrace the High & Tight this summer for a stylish, low-maintenance haircut that keeps you cool and looking sharp!
