If there's one thing the pandemic has taught us, it's that the future is unpredictable. But one aspect we can control is our wardrobe.
We've had a year to fine-tune our fashion sense, and now it's time to leave behind outdated trends, giving ourselves a fresh start in 2022.
Fast Fashion
I’ll admit, I used to be all about fast fashion - cheap, trendy, and with endless options. I’d buy it without a second thought. But after adopting the "Buy less, Buy better" philosophy, I’ve realized fast fashion is incredibly wasteful. Sorry to all the Zara and H&M lovers out there, but let’s face it: these clothes are designed for short-term use. You’ll find yourself caught in a cycle of buying, discarding, and buying more.
Don’t get me wrong - there are some quality pieces in fast fashion. I’ve got a couple of sweaters and jackets from H&M that have held up well. But that’s more the exception than the rule. Moving forward, investing in quality pieces, even if they cost more, will save you in the long run. Plus, timeless designs will never go out of style.
Crocs
I still can’t wrap my head around the Crocs craze. Call them "shoes" if you want, but to me, they’re just rubber foot covers that belong indoors - end of discussion.
No man over five should be seen in public with these plastic clogs on his feet. And don’t give me the “but they’re comfy” excuse. There are plenty of shoes that offer comfort without looking ridiculous - think loafers, slip-ons, or espadrilles. Can we collectively agree to retire Crocs for good?
Ugly sneakers
Isn’t it time to let this trend die? Since the Balenciaga Triple S hit the scene in 2017, oversized, chunky sneakers have been everywhere. These mammoth shoes have overstayed their welcome, and I’m hoping 2022 will finally put an end to this era.
Super Skinny Jeans
The 2010s were ruled by super tight skinny jeans. Sure, they worked if you had the right body type, but let’s be real - ultra-skinny jeans are anything but practical. Especially when paired with those aforementioned chunky sneakers, the proportions are completely thrown off.
Thankfully, looser fits are back in style. Straight-leg and slim-fit jeans have a timeless appeal and are far more comfortable.
Muscle-fit Clothing
Let’s talk about "muscle-fit." It’s a marketing term for clothes that are just too tight. And for those who actually hit the gym, wearing muscle-fit is a disaster. The image below will show you exactly why this trend needs to be tossed out ASAP.
Let’s make 2022 a year of stylish upgrades and smarter fashion choices.
