Making a Week of Sharp Dressing Look Effortless

Updated: Dec 16

Truth be told, my current job doesn’t require me to wear a suit every day - just a shirt and trousers, which, honestly, is enough of a challenge for me. However, in the same office building, there’s a Japanese company, our "neighbors," where employees are expected to wear suits ALL WEEK. While nothing says professional and polished like a well-tailored suit, the routine can feel a bit… monotonous. After all, who wants to wear the same thing day in and day out?

Now, picture this: you only own one suit (which is quite common for many guys in Vietnam), and suddenly, your office mandates that suits must be worn every day. What’s the move? Buy another one or make that single suit work?

Here’s how you can switch things up:

Change Up the Shirt Underneath

It might seem basic, but switching up your shirt is an easy win. If you’re rocking the suit every day, especially in the heat, it’s crucial to change the shirt you wear underneath. Vary the color and style - don’t just swap out one white shirt for another. Play with different materials, like cotton or linen, adjust the thickness, and try out various collar styles (classic, cutaway, etc.) to keep things fresh.

**Skip the Shirt, Go for a T-shirt or Polo

Looking to make your suit feel more laid-back? Pair it with a simple T-shirt or polo shirt. This works best if your office has a more relaxed dress code. But if not, save this trick for when the occasion calls for a more casual look. It’s a quick way to keep your suit feeling versatile without losing the edge of professionalism.

Switch Up Your Trousers

While the suit jacket can withstand regular wear, the trousers will naturally show signs of use quicker. So give those suit trousers a break and opt for a pair that matches the jacket in terms of color and material. This helps maintain a cohesive look while still adding a bit of variety.

Feeling bold? Try pairing your suit jacket with chinos or even jeans. Stick to dark, solid colors, and you’ll still look sharp.

Accessorize to Change the Game

Small details matter. A change in accessories can make a world of difference. Think no-show socks with loafers on hot days, a different tie each day, a pocket square peeking out from your jacket, or even a fresh hairstyle. These simple touches can transform your suit from a daily uniform into a stylish ensemble.

Go for Dark-Toned Suits

While light or patterned suits are fun, a dark-toned suit is your best friend for the long haul. Not only are stains harder to spot on deep hues like navy or charcoal, but dark suits are versatile and universally accepted. You can wear the same suit multiple days without raising an eyebrow.

Fit Is Everything

Here’s the golden rule: the fit of your suit is everything. An ill-fitting suit, whether too baggy or too tight, will always be obvious. Sure, a tailor can tweak some details, but there’s no fixing the core fit. So, whether you're purchasing a new suit or getting one tailored, make sure it fits perfectly from the start.
