Timepieces That Captured My Attention

Let’s be real: there’s no such thing as a “seasonal” watch. When you’re into timepieces, it’s a year-round love affair. That said, finding the perfect watch feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. It doesn’t need to be a luxury splurge - if it matches your vibe, fits your style, and works for your daily grind, you’ve found the one.

A while back, I promised to dig into Hanoi’s watch scene and bring you some accessible options instead of showing off dream pieces that require endless online orders. Thankfully, my pledge didn’t go unnoticed, and I got a little help along the way. Last week, Đồng Hồ Thật invited me to check out their collection. I even got to borrow a few models for a proper hands-on review.

Spoiler alert: what seemed like a quick task turned into half a Sunday spent wading through countless options. Eventually, I landed on five watches that truly caught my eye for their design and bang-for-your-buck prices. Let’s dive in - who knows, your next wrist companion might be on this list!

Jacques Lemans 1-1542D Sydney

Price: 5,808,000 VND

There’s something undeniably charming about Jacques Lemans. Since its start in Austria in 1975, this brand has kept things in-house, managing everything from design to production to quality control. This self-sufficiency really shines through in their pieces, like the 1-1542D Sydney. Its clean, sharp chronograph design is elevated by golden second hands that pop against the masculine black dial.

What’s funny is that the Sydney reminds me of the Tissot PRC200 - the first “serious” watch I ever owned. But here’s the kicker: it’s even better-looking, and honestly, that’s a little frustrating!

Kenneth Cole KC5159

Price: 2,838,000 VND

Kenneth Cole’s legacy began in 1982 with women’s shoes, but the brand has since mastered men’s fashion and accessories. Their watches, launched in 1996, are a go-to for anyone seeking affordable yet stylish timepieces.

The KC5159 is a timeless choice for fans of classic sophistication. Its Roman numeral dial, paired with a refined gray-gold color scheme, feels like a natural fit for any well-tailored suit. It’s the perfect mix of elegance and charm - effortless, yet undeniably striking.

Citizen CA0021-02E

Price: 11,155,000 VND

Okay, I know the price might sting a little, but hear me out: this Japanese beauty is worth every đồng. Part of Citizen’s 6-hand sports chronograph line, the CA0021-02E balances ruggedness with finesse. Its angular frame blends seamlessly into a rounded edge, creating a look that’s both modern and timeless.

The leather strap with white stitching adds a classic touch, but the real game-changer here is the Titanium alloy case. Stronger than stainless steel, it’s built to last. And let’s not forget the Eco-Drive technology, which harnesses any light source to keep the watch running. No battery changes - just give it a little sunlight, and you’re good to go.

With its sapphire crystal face, sleek design, and powerhouse durability, this watch is a standout performer.

Guess 17539G1

Price: 6,890,000 VND

Bold and masculine, Guess watches are known for their fashion-forward designs, and the 17539G1 is no exception. This piece oozes contemporary style with a touch of elegance, starting with its striking red second-hand circle.

Despite its larger size (44mm diameter), it doesn’t feel overwhelming thanks to the sleek black dial and glossy black steel strap. The design’s three intersecting circles and prominent white hands give it a modern edge that feels fresh yet classic. This one’s a head-turner for sure.

Seiko SUR023P2

Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset

Price: 3,564,000 VND

What can I say about Seiko that hasn’t been said already? This Japanese powerhouse is synonymous with reliability and durability, without sacrificing aesthetics.

The SUR023P2 caught my eye for its understated elegance. Simple yet refined, it’s the kind of watch you can wear daily and never tire of. Seiko’s ability to deliver premium quality at an affordable price never ceases to amaze me, and this model is no exception.

Each of these watches has its own unique vibe, from sporty to sophisticated. Whether you’re after something bold or subtle, there’s a good chance one of these will feel right at home on your wrist.
