Deeper Into Style: Why Not Take It Further?

Fashion is all about individuality. What looks sharp on one guy might not work for another, and that’s completely fine. But if you’re ready to take your style to the next level, it’s worth asking yourself: do you want to just skim the surface, or do you want to go deeper? Whether your vibe is elegant, rugged, laid-back, or a little outside the box, there are key principles that can help you refine and elevate your look.

Fit is Everything

To me, it’s pretty straightforward: no matter how good or expensive an item is, if it doesn’t fit right, it’s pointless. Pay attention to the fit of your clothes - particularly in areas like the shoulders and chest. Avoid anything too tight or too baggy. And if you’ve already bought something that doesn’t fit well? It might be tough, but it’s time to part ways and find it a new home.

Quality Over Quantity

Investing in quality pieces will always pay off. High-quality fabrics and expert craftsmanship not only look better but last longer than cheap alternatives. So, don’t feel bad about spending a bit more on something that will stick around for years. It’s better than constantly replacing items that lose their shape after just a few washes.

Educate Yourself on Fabrics and Craftsmanship

Building a deep personal style isn’t just about buying clothes and wearing them. Anyone can do that. Take some time to learn about the fabrics, the construction of shoes, and the history of the styles you’re drawn to. Knowledge is power, and knowing why you choose certain pieces will make you more confident in your style.

Pay attention to the stitching on garments - clean, consistent lines signal quality. Opt for natural fabrics when possible and choose shoes with sewn, not glued, soles (Goodyear or McKay stitching). You don’t need to know everything right away, but building up your knowledge over time will give you a solid foundation.

Take Care of Your Wardrobe

Style starts before you even get dressed. Yes, planning your outfit is key, but taking care of your clothes is just as important. Iron your shirts, launder them properly, shine your shoes, and mend any items that need it. Proper maintenance will extend the life of your clothing and keep your look sharp.

Embrace Timeless Classics

Trends come and go, and trying to keep up with every new one can be exhausting. Instead, focus on timeless pieces that have been staples in men’s fashion for years - button-down shirts, Oxford shoes, indigo jeans, and a well-fitted navy blazer. Classic doesn’t mean boring; it means your style will outlast the latest fads, with plenty of room to add your personal touch.

Details Matter

Anyone can throw on clothes, but how you wear them makes all the difference. There are some classic rules - like matching your belt with your shoes, pairing socks with your trousers, and choosing the right tie for your shirt collar. These little details ensure your outfit looks cohesive and polished.

Upgrade Your Accessories

Accessories might be small, but they can make a big impact on your overall look. Invest in quality items like a versatile watch, leather belts, stylish ties, or even a well-crafted pair of glasses. Sometimes, the right accessories draw more attention than the clothes themselves, making a subtle but strong statement about your personal style.

Find Comfort in Your Style

There’s a reason why people say, “Fashion kills the weather.” Some guys wear suits year-round and feel totally comfortable because they genuinely love the way they look in them. That psychological comfort translates into confidence, which is the true key to great style. However, don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone once in a while - you might find a new look that suits you even better than your old favorites.

Play with Colors, Patterns, and Proportions

Colors, patterns, and proportions breathe life into your outfits and can drastically affect how you feel in them.

Mastering these elements takes time, but don’t be afraid to experiment and make mistakes. Over time, you’ll figure out which color combinations work best for you, and you can build your unique wardrobe formula from there.

Experiment with Fabric Textures

In addition to color and pattern, fabric texture plays a huge role in creating depth in your outfits.

A cotton shirt can feel vastly different depending on the weave, and materials like corduroy, suede, or linen can add an interesting layer to your look. Get to know how different fabrics feel and wear over time, and incorporate them into your outfits to create richer, more dynamic looks.

Master the Art of Layering

Wearing an overcoat with a t-shirt is one thing, but layering a turtleneck, denim shirt, and overcoat is a whole new level. Mixing colors, textures, and patterns creates contrast and visual interest, making your style more unique and eye-catching. Don’t be afraid to experiment with layering - it’s a great way to bring out your creativity.

Remember, style is a journey. By paying attention to these elements and staying true to your personal tastes, you can take your fashion game to a whole new level.
