Simplicity Never Goes Out of Style

Launched in 2008 by Swedish designer David Ericsson and based in Hong Kong, VOID Watches combines Scandinavian minimalism with contemporary functionality. Their offerings range from digital and quartz watches to mechanical models, as well as interchangeable leather and NATO straps. The brand’s ethos? Keep things simple yet distinct.

Let’s be real - watch reviews aren’t my usual forte. But my love for watches, my go-to accessory, drives this passionate write-up. 😎 The spark for this review came when VOID Watches generously gifted me their bestselling V03D. Having admired the brand for a while, I couldn’t resist diving in!

Natalie Leung, VOID Watches’ Sales Manager, made the experience seamless. After some back-and-forth, the ultimate question arose: black, gold, or grey V03D? My choice? Gold. It was simply irresistible, and I promised to give it my most objective review.

Within a week, the watch was in my hands. At $215 (~5 million VND), including free international shipping and a two-year warranty, the V03D strikes a balance between quality and affordability.

The tiny Manual piece fits neatly at the bottom of the box.

VOID Watches’ packaging is minimal yet striking, featuring a sleek matte black design. Tucked neatly inside, the user manual is a standout - it’s compact and practical, unlike the bulky, jargon-filled booklets many brands include unnecessarily.

The V03D is a classic analog watch featuring a date function. Its smooth, matte gold steel casing elevates the design - far superior to shiny finishes that often feel gaudy.

The 38mm watch face, paired with a 10mm thickness, offers a solid, modern presence without feeling bulky. It features mineral crystal glass - durability is decent, though scratch resistance might need care.

A standout detail? The dial’s concentric circle design. Against a deep black backdrop, white numerals and luminous hands create a striking contrast. While some lighter dials, like grey-blue, might struggle in bright sunlight, the black face excels in both clarity and elegance.

Powered by Miyota, a Japanese movement by Citizen, the V03D boasts the kind of reliability trusted by major brands like Jacques Lemans and Junghans. Even luxury giant Tag Heuer incorporates Miyota in select lines.

Water resistance is rated at 30m - adequate for light rain but steer clear of submerging it. The crown, engraved with VOID’s logo, sits at 3 o’clock, blending form and function seamlessly.

The back case of the watch is polished stainless steel, featuring founder David Ericsson's signature at the center. The outer edge displays basic technical details along with the brand's website address.

The crown, featuring the VOID Watches logo at the 3 o'clock position, boasts a textured design that elegantly contrasts with the smooth, polished finish of the watch case.

The watch buckle is subtly accented with the VOID Watches logo in the corner.

The V03D’s leather strap is soft, slightly textured, and delightfully comfortable. A unique squared-off design at the ends showcases VOID’s attention to detail, distinguishing it from competitors.

Compared with straps from Mondaine or Daniel Wellington, VOID’s offering is sleeker and more refined. Need a refresh? The brand provides interchangeable straps in various materials and colors, plus tools for easy swaps.

Pro tip: invest in black and brown straps for versatility or experiment with a NATO strap for casual flair.

After a week of wear, the V03D proved its adaptability. Whether paired with jeans and a T-shirt, smart-casual attire, or even a formal suit, this watch consistently delivers understated elegance.

Its minimalist design makes it a perfect choice for any occasion, offering flexibility for both everyday wear and special events.

For anyone seeking their first high-quality watch, the VOID V03D is a stellar choice. Its unassuming design doesn’t shout for attention but quietly impresses with its modern, thoughtful details.

Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a newbie exploring watches, the V03D is a timeless piece that bridges simplicity and sophistication.
