While scrolling online, I came across an intriguing GQ interview that I couldn’t resist sharing. It features Caroline Issa, the Fashion Director at Tank magazine, and someone who’s made a big name for herself in men’s fashion. Caroline collaborates annually with Nordstrom - one of the most iconic retail brands in the US - to release four collections. With over 13 years of experience attending runway shows across the globe, she's seen it all when it comes to the evolving world of men’s fashion.

How has working in fashion shaped your view of men?
Honestly, not much. Men's fashion is still chaotic. But if I’ve learned anything, it’s that fashion has something for everyone, regardless of gender, class, or style. The fun part is that fashion can’t be easily categorized. So if I claim I’ve learned something definitive, I actually haven’t learned a thing!
"It’s nearly impossible to box fashion in."
Do men who obsess over their appearance leave a bad impression?
If we’re talking Christian Bale's character in American Psycho, yeah, that’s creepy. But I love when a guy puts effort into his look, keeps up with fashion, and stays on top of trends. I don’t want to generalize, but women who love fashion often help their boyfriends shop because they want them to look sharp too!
How much does a man's style matter to women?
A lot. If he’s sloppy, in baggy sweats that show more than they should, it’s definitely a turn-off. But a guy who knows how to put himself together, has style, and a great sense of humor? That’s unforgettable.
What defines a well-dressed man?
I’ve always believed that the peak of fashion for a guy is when he feels confident walking out the door, no matter what others think. Even if he’s rocking some wild leopard loafers that don’t technically "go" with his outfit, if he’s owning it, he looks fantastic. Confidence is key!
It all starts with confidence.
Do women talk about a man’s style after a date?
"He looked sharp" is definitely what women say about a guy whose style stood out. They’ll also point out the accessories: a cool pocket square, a unique hat, or polished shoes. This is why fashion mags exist - helping guys look their best in the eyes of women.
In the past, guys would rely on their girlfriends to shop. Now, many shop solo or with friends. What’s your take on that?
That’s awesome! I don’t want to be the one telling my boyfriend what to wear. I’d rather he feel confident in his own choices. It’s great that men are starting to embrace fashion on their own. They should be their own style gurus, not relying on women.
